01 - 4 slices Italian or sourdough bread
02 - 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
03 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

04 - 1/3 cup pizza sauce

05 - 12 to 16 slices pepperoni
→ Optional Toppings
06 - 2 tablespoons sliced black olives
07 - 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil or parsley
08 - 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
# Method:
01 - Arrange bread slices on a flat surface and spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice.
02 - Place two slices, buttered side down, on a clean cutting board.
03 - Spread half of the pizza sauce over each bread slice.
04 - Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
05 - Arrange pepperoni slices evenly on top of the cheese and add black olives if using.
06 - Top the pepperoni with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
07 - Place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side facing up.
08 - Preheat a nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
09 - Transfer the sandwiches to the hot pan. Cook 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until bread is golden brown and cheese fully melted.
10 - Remove sandwiches from pan and rest 1 minute before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and grated Parmesan if desired. Serve immediately.
